SAFETY INFORMATION

Nascobal® (Cyanocobalamin, USP) is a prescription Nasal Spray that contains a synthetic form of vitamin B12. Nascobal Nasal Spray is used to maintain normal vitamin B12 levels in pernicious anemia patients who have no nervous system involvement.

Nascobal Nasal Spray is also used as a supplement for vitamin B12 deficiency that results from other conditions including multiple sclerosis, HIV infection, AIDS, and Crohn’s disease, as prescribed by a health care professional.Patients may require weekly intranasal administration of Nascobal Nasal Spray for the remainder of their lives. Consult a health care professional before discontinuing use. Failure to take vitamin B12 carries a serious risk of recurrence of anemia and potential damage to the nervous system.

Patients should not take folic acid in place of vitamin B12. Patients using Nascobal Nasal Spray should return for follow-up blood tests every 3 to 6 months to measure vitamin B12 levels.

Side effects thought to be related to Nascobal use are usually mild and include headache, nausea and runny nose.
